This piece started as one black ink drawing done to the live performance of San Antonio, Texas musicians Sullen Serenade. I scanned it, expanded and developed it digitally, and then brought three stages of the drawing together as a triptych.
Creature: Digitally recolored gouache, conté, colored pencil and ink on varnished Rives BFK.
This mixed-media drawing combines gouache, conté crayon, colored pencil and ink. The whole drawing was then varnished. It was scanned and its colors/contrast digitally adjusted. For prints of this piece, please go to my Pixels.com online store!
I was stuck in San Francisco an extra afternoon when I missed my flight home (could be worse). Laying in the sun on a grassy lawn in one of the many parks in town, I was surrounded by people lounging like they were on the beach instead of in the city. A man with a cello, a loop sampling pedal, and an amp played neoclassical riffs, looped them and improvised over them. It echoed through the park and off of the buildings around us. A performance artist was doing a weird modern dance to the music. He was being followed around by a camera man. The two almost looked choreographed together.
As I listened to the music, I drew this.
